  • Melt butter in pan over medium heat.
  • Add milk in to the pan. Then add sugar and mix until it’s fully dissolved.
  • Turn off the heat. Let it cool down a little until it becomes lukewarm.
  • Add active dry yeast into the mixture and give it a quick whisk. Set aside and let it rest for about 5 minutes.
  • In a mixing bowl, add flour, egg and liquid mixture. Mix and then knead for 10 minutes.
  • The dough is ready when it’s no longer sticking on the side of the bowl.
  • Put dough on a clean surface and shape it into a big ball. Put it in a large bowl. Cover and let it rise for about 45 minutes or until it doubles in size.
  • Form the dough in to a log and make 16 slices.
  • Take a slice and roll until it elongates to approximately a foot long.
  • Put both ends together and twist at the bottom to create the twisted shaped. Repeat this process for the remaining pieces.
  • Let the twisted pieces rest for 30 minutes to expand and rise even more.
  • In a deep pot or fryer over medium heat, add a generous amount of cooking oil. Let it bubble.
  • Put the twisted doughnuts into the fryer. Cook each side for about 5 minutes or until it turns golden brown. Flip over each side ocassionally to cook evenly.
  • Remove cooked doughnuts from oil when cooked and place in a strainer to drain the excess oil.
  • Put 2 tbsp of sugar in a brown paper bag and put the doughnuts in and shake to cover it with sugar.
  • Repeat this process for the remaining pieces. Serve with your favourite hot beverage. Enjoy!
